Outdoor Activities

Given our location in beautiful Beaver Creek, CO; we hope you can join us to take advantage of some fun, relaxed outdoor activities on Friday October 7! Adventure through the mountainside in a jeep tour, test your skills in a fly fishing lesson on Gore Creek, or play a round of golf with a view.

How it works: Attendees (and their family members) will pay for their own activities. Cost associated activities will require upfront payment at time of reservation. You will receive a confirmation email at least one week prior to the event containing logistics and instructions associated with the activity.

Sign up: Participate in any of the organized group activities below by signing up during registration. If you are already registered, access your attendee portal link found in your confirmation email or contact Tonya McCabe at Tonya.McCabe@nrel.gov if you need your attendee portal link sent to you.
Fly Fishing Photo

Gore Creek Fly Fishing Casting Clinic

Perfect for those who have never fly fished before and would like to try the sport. The casting clinics will be held on the river located right outside of the Westin Resort. All equipment is provided; all you need to do is show up. Payment is required at time of sign-up.

Pricing:
10:00 a.m. – 2 hour casting clinic ($40pp-with a minimum group of 5)
11:00 a.m. – 1 hour casting clinic ($25pp-with a minimum group of 5)

Red Sky Ranch Golf Outing

The golf outing will take place 15 minutes from the Westin Resort. Foursomes will play 18 holes; tee times will be confirmed once we know how many foursomes there will be.

Hiking Photo

Group Lead Hike

Join our NREL team for a moderate 5 mile roundtrip hike to enjoy the fall leaves on foot! The hike will take us to Beaver Lake in the Holy Cross Wilderness. We suggest a water bottle, sunscreen, light jacket, and closed-toed hiking or tennis shoes.

2:00 pm: Meet in the hotel lobby for a shuttle ride to the trailhead. Please allow 2-3 hours for the hike.

Timberline Jeep Tours

A fantastic way to see all that the majestic Colorado scenery has to offer, especially during the autumn months when the Aspen leaves are changing colors! This tour features Castle Peak, a jagged volcanic mountaintop, and the nearby Blue Lake, one of Colorado’s most picturesque high mountain lakes. The arid mountain landscape on this jeep tour is also accented by several springs, small lakes, and perennial streams along the way.

Participants will be picked up at the Westin hotel for the 4-hour tour. Tour is subject to weather restrictions (cannot be done in rainy or severe weather) and includes gourmet snacks and water.

2:00 – 6:00 pm
Each jeep can accommodate 6 people
Adults: $118pp | Children (10 and over): $99 | Children (9 and under): $69

Biking or Hiking

On-site bike rentals are available at the Westin Beaver Creek sports. The area boasts miles of scenic hiking and biking trails for both beginners and for those who are more adventurous. View trails here.

Westin Fitness

The Westin Fitness center offer an outdoor heated 25-yard lap pool, a variety of cardio and weightlifting equipment, and more than 70 group fitness classes a week.
